Registration for the course is now closed.

Attendance is free for STFC-funded and self-supported PhD students. We also offer places to PhD students who are not funded by STFC for a nominal fee of £500, which includes accommodation and all meals.

STFC- and self-funded students can also get their travel costs reimbursed from STFC, see this link for relevant information and claim forms.

The STFC Introductory Course in Solar and Solar -Terrestrial Physics for 2023 will be held at the University of St Andrews from Monday 21st August 2023 to Friday 25th August 2023. The course will hosted by the Solar and Magnetospheric Theory Group, School of Mathematics and Statistics.

The course is intended for students who have either started their PhD since the last summer school (in August 2022) or those who will begin their PhD in September/October 2023.

Attendance of the Course is free for STFC-funded students, but we also offer places for non-STFC-funded students at cost (please contact us if you are interested in attending, contact details below). Lectures are held in the Mathematical Institute building (Lecture Theatre B). Accommodation will be provided in the University’s Agnes Blackadder Hall, which is within a few minutes walking distance from the Mathematical Institute.

A preliminary programme is outlined below and the lectures will be delivered by experts in these fields from across the UK.
